Our company began using SoftPlan in 2004 with the purchase of SoftPlan Version 12 complete with SoftList and SoftPlan Review modules. We are currently using Version 14.

 

Before being introduced to SoftPlan my employers were advocates of AutoCad.
Personally I had been using AutoCad for more than six years and I had even “mastered” the time consuming task of very basic 3D views.

 

Our company specializes in design and construction of Attic conversions as well as renovation and addition projects to the domestic housing market in Sydney.

The ability of SoftPlan to generate 3D views at any time in the design development of these projects has greatly assisted in the rapid progression of the designs for our clients - something we could not do previously using AutoCad. 

With all our design and construct projects, the SoftPlan 3D Review presentations are one of the great assets for our company particularly in presenting the very early concept designs to our clients.

 

SoftPlan Review and in particular the 3D Review module gives us the opportunity to present to our clients interactive 3D Review presentations of our designs that they can view directly on their own computers allowing them to involved their entire family with in depth discussions in the privacy of their own home. 

3D review is so simple to use that almost all of our clients very quickly develop the skills to move and view their 3D model from any position, including zooming into the 3D “interior” design elements of their project. 

The use of the SoftList module for our estimators and site supervisors has meant instead of taking hours to create material lists for projects ready for costing and ordering it now takes a matter of minutes immensely increasing their own work flow and productivity.

 

SoftPlan’s major strength for our company is the ability to customize every facet of the program both in the 2D drafting and 3D modes. The ease of customising the “material calculation formulas” and presentation formats in SoftList is something that we consider paramount in the design and construction of our clients projects. 

SoftPlan Version 14’s integration within our company continues to open new opportunities for us to stretch the design limits of the type and size of projects we pursue.  

I believe SoftPlan has had a major role in enable ling our company to be the recipients of the “MBA Excellence in Housing Awards for House Additions and Renovations” in 2007, 2008, 2010 Winners and Merit in 2009.

 

The ability of SoftPlan to generate instant shadow diagrams is absolutely magic and as with all the 3D capabilities, they can be fully customized to be site specific and can begin generating shadow diagrams at any stage in the development of a design.

 

Personally I think SoftPlan and all of it extension modules have become valuable assets for our company, especially when you have clients who struggle with understanding the outdated 2D presentations - and don’t we all deal with those clients on nearly every project.
